Go Bokke! We can use the WCR as a metaphor in Business.

From tiny tots at Nursery School to Ugogos ( Zulu for Granny) are wearing green and gold and shouting BOKKE … BOKKE.

I am loving Boardroom discussions this week, where people are using the RWC ( Rugby World Cup) as a metaphor, to re-examine

  • Working under pressure : how do we perform under pressure after 70 mins of being “behind in points / sales” ?
  • Are we brave enough to shift people’s roles and responsibilities ? As the Springboks did by making a few player changes in the last 10 mins of the match last week to win against England by 1 point.
  • Are we celebrating the newbies in our business … even if they have only been here for a SHORT time. As per the Boks that came on in the last 15 mins, last Saturday.
  • What about our leadership styles? Are we “self aware”? Self awareness is a performance skill ? South African director of rugby : Rassie Erasmus describes himself in his biography as “a quiet, uncomplicated person”. Many people think he’s an extrovert.

I am by no means a rugby expert. I am a behavioural strategist and just LOVING the “gees” of the RWC on the streets of SA with our car guards, the ladies at the checkout counters in retail stores and the different rhetoric in the boardroom! More chatter, laughter, and constructive robust discussions and we know that boosts brain dopamine. May the RWC fever last longer than just this weekend !

GOOOOO BOKKE.

PS A clever person in our running club. #TyroneHarriers ( Parkview,Jhb) designed our 18km route
